Kim Kardashian was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of late attorney Robert Kardashian and Kris Jenner (née Houghton). Kim is a fourth generation Armenian American. Her paternal great-grandparents immigrated to Los Angeles from historic Armenia (then part of the Ottoman Empire, now in Turkey) just before the Armenian Genocide. Kim's last name is Armenian and it means "son of a stone sharpener". Kim's mother Kris, is of Scottish and Dutch descent. Though half Armenian, Kim Kardashian states she was raised with a huge Armenian influence, always hearing Armenian stories, eating Armenian food and celebrating Armenian holidays.
