2008 was Priyanka Chopra's year with hits like Fashion and Dostana. 2009 however seems to be more of Kareena Kapoor's year with the number of releases she has lined up. Here's taking a head to head look at both of them.



Movies: Priyanka Chopra has Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminay and Ashutosh Gowariker's 'What's Your Rashee?' with Shahid Kapoor and Harman Baweja respectively. They may be good films but aren't exactly big budget blockbusters. Kareena Kapoor, on the other hand, may have missed both Fashion and Dostana last year, but this year she has, Sajid Nadiadwala's big budget entertainer Kambakht Ishq with Akshay Kumar and Sylvester Stallone, Dharma Productions' Jihaad with Saif Ali Khan, Main aur Mrs. Khanna with Salman Khan and Raju Hirani's 3 Idiots with Aamir Khan, which are all highly anticipated films. So Priyanka has 2 confirmed releases while Bebo has 4.



Who wore the Saree Better? The answer is Kareena. Not only is her bright yellow saree more attractive than Priyanka Chopra's beige one but it is also the attitude, Kareena Kapoor appears very confident while Priyanka Chopra seems a little shy and demure.


Who wore the Dress Better? This is a little hard to decide. Kareena's dress flatters her figure better than Priyanka's does. Bebo's dress is conservative while Priyanka's short number is edgier. Priyanka's legs are slimmer than Bebo's and therefore there is a difference in the sandals as well.

Prettier Face? For those who like their women dusky and smouldering, it is Priyanka Chopra's Indian beauty with her bow-shaped lips and dusky complexion. Bebo, on the other hand has a very international appeal. With full lips, a perfect nose, high cheekbones, porcelain complexion, and enchanting green eyes, she is a picture of perfection and a classical beauty.


Better Body: Priyanka Chopra likes it black while Bebo likes it white. Priyanka Chopra in her figure flattering black gown is a lot sexier than slim Bebo in her white gown. Bebo is elegant and slim while Piggy Chops is sensual and voluptuous. Overall, Piggy has a naturally slim yet shapely frame while Bebo's frame fluctuates from skinny to voluptuous depending on her roles.



Better Hair: Bebo's tresses are long, straight and silky while Piggy Chops' hair is short, shiny and voluminous. Bebo's hair is cut in long layers while Priyanka's short hair-do with layers frames her face nicely. Both have coloured their hair dark brown. Which hairstyle do you like better?

Abbas-Mustaan's Race, produced by Tips, turned out to be one of 2008's biggest grossers. The film garnered appreciation not just from critics but also the masses so much so, Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor and Tips are already planning a sequel to it but this time the previous heroines (Katrina Kaif, Bipasha Basu) won't be there. Saif's girlfriend Kareena has replaced Katrina in Race 2.

Casting change

Ramesh Taurani from Tips says, "Yes, we are already working on the script of Race 2. We were thrilled with Race's success. Theatrically and overseas, it grossed Rs 120 crore and was one of the blockbusters of 2008; that's why we are planning a sequel to it.

Abbas-Mustaan will direct the sequel while Saif and Anil will be retained. We are also going in for new casting with the sequel. Kareena Kapoor will act in Race 2 opposite Saif. In Race, the story will be different while some of the characters will remain the same."

Slicker and sexier

Saif Ali Khan adds, "I am very excited to be part of the Race sequel. I have been offered many sequels but there are only certain films which merit a sequel Race is one of them.

We aim to make Race 2 better than the original. It will be slicker, faster, sexier, more thrilling and upgraded in a much bigger way from Race."

Polishing things up

He continues, "Right now, Race 2 is in the scripting stage we need to polish up a few things. There were some glitches in Race, which we plan to smoothen out in R2. If everything works out well, Abbas- Mustaan will be directing the sequel.

I'm also looking forward to Kareena being a part of the film. We need a very glamorous actress to play the role and Kareena fits the bill best on the glam quotient. We will also be shooting in exotic locations like Barbados and all over the world."

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na girl Manjari Fadnis in music video ???

Her ‘What’s That’ act did get her all the attention in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. However, with a blockbuster to her name, Manjari Fadnis is now moving on and looking forward to her upcoming assignments. The first of them which would be unveiled for audiences any time now is a music video for which she shot some time back.

“This is a beautiful ’sufi’ number which is sung by Krishna (of ‘Maula Mere’ - Chak De India and ‘Main Jahaan Rahoon’ - Namastey London) fame. He has cut an album and a music video has been made for one of the songs. It is a good platform for me as I am seen in Indian costumes. Also, since the video revolves around the character I enact, it does give me good visibility”, informs Manjari who made her debut as a school girl in Rok Sako To Rok Lo four years back.
“It seems like such a long time back. However, from here on I believe the journey should get into a fast track mode”, beams Manjari whose next film release would be I Am 24 where she faces the camera along with the likes of Rajat Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey, Neha Dhupia, Vijay Raaz, “It is a breezy entertainer and the comedy there is first of it’s kinds as well. It was a riot shooting for the film.”

Talking about her newfound success, Manjari goes on to exclaim, “I missed all the euphoria created by Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na on its release. I was stationed in Bangkok and the moment I landed in Mumbai, I could sense people looking at me strangely. Soon a young girl passed by me and said ‘Hi Meghna’ with a sweet smile. This is when I realized that the film and my character (Meghna) had caught on with people. Congratulatory calls have been coming in ever since then which by it’s sheer quantum, to be honest, is a first as I didn’t experience anything like that with Rok Sako To Rok Lo or Mumbai Salsa.

How about her now-famous ‘What’s That’ act? One hears that it is getting popular as well in the campus circuit. “And also the ‘Pappu Dance’”, laughs Manjari, “So what if I couldn’t be a part of the dance sequence, I still had a riot watching it over and over again. I am proud of the film and happy that youngsters have absorbed the flavor of the film so well. Things like ‘What’s That’, ‘Pappu Dance’ and the cool costumes that we all had worn aren’t always made with a thought; they just get made! I am happy that Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na is turning out to be a trendsetter of sorts.”

Saif Ali Khan romances Kareena Kapoor

Saif Ali Khan will romance real life ladylove Kareena Kapoor in a new Karan Johar production.

The couple has been signed on by Rensil D’ Silva of Rang De Basanthi fame who will direct this movie. Saif and Bebo will pair for the first time in a Karan Johar movie.

But this movie is not the bubbly romance with foreign locales that Johar has perfected. It will be a dark gritty drama with Saif as a terrorist. Kareena will play his ladylove.

This movie is going to be an interesting watch as Karan Johar makes a U-turn from his usual lavish set, dances filled romantic comedies.

Saif Ali Khan, who is known to play rather typical characters like Sameer in Dil Chahta Hai, Karan Singh Rathod in Ek Haseena Thi, Cyrus Mistry in Being Cyrus and Langda Tyagi in Omkara, is again ready to play a hatke role.He will play a terrorist in Karan Johar’s next production. The untitled film will be directed by Rang De Basanti writer, Rensil D’Silva.

Says a source close to the film, “The story is a far cry from the usual Karan’s films. There will be no designer glam sham or naach gaana. It is a hard-hitting subject. Karan loved Rensil’s script so much that he decided to produce it. He also gave Rensil the freedom to choose the actors to justify his script. That’s how Rensil decided to cast Saif. He plays a meticulous and urban-educated terrorist. There is also an interesting romantic track between him and the leading lady, Kareena,” adds the source.

‘I am an angel’

My idea of a tattoo is that not many should be able to see it. I have always wanted a tattoo and the one you see now has ‘angel’ written on it. I also have another one with my son’s name on it but I am not telling you where I have got it. And I will keep adding to my tattoo tally as and when I have another kid. It is quite an addiction. I got it done with my sister Amrita and we were amongst the first in the industry to have it.

I am happy the way Amrita’s career is shaping. She will be shooting at the Universal Studio in LA for Kambhat Ishq and the movie that she is doing has some very interesting cameos. Like by Sylvester Stallone and loads of other Hollywood stars!

‘That episode was a nightmare’

The incident over the promotion of a fairness cream was a nightmare for me and Arbaaz. We were just endorsing a brand and the company had an idea of launching it in a different manner. And suddenly, there were these divorce rumours. We both have stayed away controversies all our lives. In fact, I have been Ms Uncontroversial. This was a learning experience and it made me realise that people can be real strange sometimes. But I should also tell people that we actors are also human beings and the language that was used for us was uncalled for. Arbaaz was really hurt and he did not like the way his wife and kid were written about. But this chapter is over for us! But in the whole episode, some people came out in our support. That felt good.

‘Salman’s real self will come out’

I have seen the first episode of Salman’s TV show and I think what he says about this giving a clue to the person he is, is very true. When we do a movie, we are playing a character and when we do a reality show like he is doing, our true personality is revealed. The audience gets to see a slice of the real person that you are. And with this show, people will see the mad, crazy and child-like Salman... the way he is with us.

‘My NBA invitation’

I am going to Spain where I have a show. After that, there is more work in Dubai. And then, I will be taking a chutti and will join Amrita in Los Angeles where she is shooting. In fact, I was invited for the NBA finals in the US. But they wanted me there a week in advance and my schedule in Dubai didn’t permit me that. I wish I could have gone as it would have been a good experience!

Aamir Khan -Bollywood’s best actor ???

And when Aamir Khan’s nephew Imran makes this statement, you can have no doubts as to who he is referring to…

Imran Khan is taller at 5′11, and he’s got a leaner, softer and dreamier look. Whereas Aamir Khan, his famous uncle, well if you’ve seen him lately, gives every indication of going the Mike Tyson way.

He’s raw energy and all chunky, rippling muscle; very intense, yet without Iron Mike’s crazy killer expression.

But Aamir has got into the skin of a role. He’s in character for his new action film Ghajini.

And as nephew Imran, a keen follower of the Aamir Khan method of acting, puts it, “Maamu doesn’t act, he understands the character, gets a grasp on what he’s supposed to do, and then just flows.”

Aamir has produced Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, but he’s not acting in it, and nor is he launching Imran.

“If I wanted to present Imran with anything, I’d give him a car, not a film,” says Aamir with a touch of exasperation.

But, yes, Aamir is very interested in how Imran’s role is shaping up.

He was generous enough to share Imran’s first photograph with his fans on his blog recently. Till then, nobody outside Bollywood had seen his nephew.

Amrita Rao sizzling in this new avtar

Amrita Rao is back with a bang in a hot and new avatar for her forthcoming release My Name is Anthony Gonsalves. Riding high on the super success of Vivah Amrita seems quite pleased with her makeover in My Name is Anthony Gonsalves produced by Sahara One Motion Pictures

An elated Amrita says, "It surely is a new look for me. As an actress one cannot restrict oneself to a particular image and needs to constantly keep on experimenting with different kinds of looks, costumes and characters. Though I love being called 'the girl next door', I want to change the definition of the phrase a bit. The girl next door can have a great sense of humor, be attractive and also 'hot'.

She adds, "Tum Miley' is one of the most romantic songs that I have ever done. I was just sporting the attitude of the song. Additionally it was shot in idyllic Goa and I share a certain karmic connection with the place. Besides, I share a great comfort level with Nikhil. Mark my words, he is one of the most confident newcomers in Bollywood. Nikhil's second name should have been 'confidence' "

Incidentally, whilst shooting in Goa, Amrita surprised the locals with her command over 'Konkani'. During the shooting for the song, she even learnt to cook authentic Goan delicacies at Britto's in Baga in Goa.

So, it is little surprising that while every third person is packing his bags to herald the New Year in Goa, Amrita will be seen in a new avatar in the first mega release of 2008!!

Here is Salman’s marriage on the cards!

Salman Khan, media’s favorite guy is once again in news for his love interest. He had affair with many actresses in his life in past like - Sangita Bijlani, Somi Ali, Aishwarya Rai, but he was never successful in a single affair that might have matured into a marriage. Repeating the reel, his relations with Katrina Kaif also seems to be on strained node.

When asked from Niraj Manchanda, the popular numerologist and tarot card reader about the stumbling love life of Salman, he made some interesting predictions. While looking at Salman’s handwriting, Niraj told that he is very egoistic and that he mixes ego with love.
Also while evaluating his numbers Niraj explained that “the number of the film scripted by Salman Khan (Veer) comes to 18 which is a disastrous number.”

Niraj, being asked about the solutions to Salman’s problems said that there was a common solution to Salman’s both professional and personal problems. “If he wants a very successful career, he should get married to Katrina soon. Marriage will bring stability in his personal life and the positive vibes brought in by Katrina will even help his professional career” says Manchanda.

SRK dug-out row: Modi clarifies

NEW DELHI: Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi clarified the IPL stance on owners in dug-outs. ( Watch )

Lalit Modi said there are four visitors passes to meet the team in the dug-outs. These are given by the manager or the coach of the team to anyone they want to give access to for 15 minutes.

He also said, "There's another batch in red colour which is for one owner to have an all-time access to the dressing room and players' dug-outs".

Earlier there were reports that said BCCI had made it clear that ICC's rules shall be followed by on-going Indian Premier League following ICC's intervention regarding Team Kolkata owner Shah Rukh Khan's conduct. ( Watch: ‘SRK must follow rules’ )

BCCI further said that no exception shall be made for anybody and apart from players no one is allowed on dug out. IPL will take a final decision on the matter later on Monday and will send a circular to this effect, according to a news channel report.

ICC also asked BCCI to question KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan about his conduct during IPL matches.

Meanwhile, Team Kolkata CEO Joy Bhattacharya said that it is difficult to keep SRK out from the dug out and these rules does not apply on team owners. He further said that the issue can be sorted out harmoniously with ICC.

On Sunday night, Shah Rukh Khan expressed disappointment at the ICC Anti Corruption Unit barring him from going to the team dug out and dressing room in the remaining matches.

"I like to hang around with the boys. I am very energetic. I am very disappointed that the ICC has stopped me. I don't know the ICC rules. I'll tell only one thing. Nobody dare stop me from coming to Kolkata. I'll be here whenever my team plays a match at the Eden," Khan said.

Earlier, the Anti Corruption Unit officials had cautioned the actor about going into the dressing room and the team dug out during the Indian Premier League match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings.

Sources said later they directed the matinee idol to stay away from these areas in the remaining matches of his team.

Asked about the Knight Riders' defeat against the Chennai side, he said, "You play the game to win. We feel sad when the boys lose. But such things happen.

"I work hard. I want them to work harder. I would have liked the Kolkata Knight Riders to reach the final," he said.

On the Knight Riders' success as a brand, SRK said "With the help of colleagues we've done something for this. Still there is a long way to go before it becomes the number one sporting brand".

Khan said he was overwhelmed by the response of the Kolkata public and conceded the gate sales had fetched him twice the amount he had expected.

On Sunday, he was told to keep a 'safe distance' from his team. The Anti-Corruption Unit of the ICC asked the KKR owner that he should not be in the player's dressing room or their dugout just beyond the boundary. "I've been told it's got something to do with ICCs Code of Conduct," SRK himself informed on Sunday evening in response to a question during a media conference. "I’ve been made to believe its anti anti-corruption."

Shah Rukh, who is usually seen cheering the Knights in the company of his group of celebrities from the terraces of the BC Roy Club House at the Eden Gardens, has of late been making it to the dugout at the ground. The Bollywood matinee idol has been with his 'boys' in the dressing room, by his own admission very discreetly and only with the permission of coach John Buchanan, but now that door will be shut for him.

Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan - The dog-blog controversy

The blog business gets dirty once again. Not long back Aamir Khan had said, “I would like to ask Shah Rukh, how it feels to be No.2.” Then, SRK had taken it in a good spirit and once again, SRK proves that he has no time or interest in the game of words.

Read an excerpt from Aamir Khan’s blog which goes as, “”Shah Rukh is licking my feet and I am feeding him biscuits every now and then. What more can I ask for?

Now, before you jump to any conclusions let me add that Shah Rukh is the name of our dog. And before you jump to any further conclusions let me add that I had nothing to do with naming him. In fact Shah Rukh is the dog of the caretakers of our house. When I bought this house it came with the caretakers and their dog! Apparently Shah Rukh (the actor) was shooting for a commercial in this house a few years ago, and that very day the caretakers bought a pup…, and named him Shah Rukh. What are the chances of me buying a house which comes with a dog called Shah Rukh!!!

Some of my friends claim that I bought the house just because of the dog. I would have to be a serious fan of Shah Rukh’s to want to do that. Your guess…”

Even before signing off from his blog he takes one final dig at the Baadshah of Bollywood by saying, “Well Shah Rukh is once again begging for my attention, so let me get back to him. He is smelling too much, I think he needs a bath. “Heel boy, heel.”

On this Shahrukh again proves his maturity by choosing to close the controversy instead of bloating it. Says the King Khan of Bollywood:

“Moving towards blogs is a way towards joining the journalist fraternity, I love journalists but I am an actor and would like to keep it that way.”

Shahrukh brushes aside all controversies by commenting:

“Hum log hum umar hai — main, Salman, Aamir. Aur hum jab milte hain toh is se bhi ajeeb batein karte hai. (All three of us — Salman, Aamir and me are the same age and when we meet, we talk stranger stuff than this.) I have to take it with a sense of humour and I do have a sense of humour. If I can do it with others, then I should accept it.”

We guess that with SRK’s cool reaction like this, there could not be a better end to this dog-blog controversy. What say, pals?

Kareena Kapoor taking over Kajol Devgan

No doubt about it…. Kareena Kapoor’s career is on a never before ascent…. What more proof does it require than that she has been the choice for Ajay Devgan’s to be announced next directorial venture. What makes it more conspicuous is the fact that the actor-turned-director has chose Kareena over her talented wife Kajol Devgan.

The chemistry between Ajay Devgan and Kareena Kapoor had already set the cash registers ringing in ‘Omkara’. They will also be seen in Ashtavinayak’s ‘Golmaal Returns’ which is set for release later this year.

If this was not enough, Kareena Kapoor is also being considered by Karan Johar for his next venture ‘My Name Is Khan’ starring SRK, but that will be only when Kajol turns down the offer.
